Congratulations to Shaun Kort (University of Nevada) for making the 2nd Team - WAC All Conference Team for the 2nd consective year. Congratulations to Eric Pettis (UC Irvine) for being named Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger All-American Team. Congratulations to Ryan Lavarnway (Yale University) for being named to the 2nd Team All-Ivy and First Team All-New England team. Ryan was also drafted in the 6th round by the Boston Red Sox in last week's MLB draft.

Ryan Lavarnway, who recently completed his third year at Yale University and also an ECR alumnus, was drafted in the 6th round by the Boston Red Sox. He was the 202nd pick of this year's MLB draft.

Congratulations to the all time home run leader at Yale University.

ECR welcomes Coach Josh Lienhard who will take the reins of Head Coach for the ECR Baseball program. Coach Lienhard spent the past 3 years at Granada Hills CHS where he led the Highlanders to 3 straight Invitational Championship Games at Dodger Stadium. With this past season's 1-0 defeat of Bell HS, his teams won 2 of the 3 Championship Games.

JV season ends with 1-0 loss to Chatsworth

A first inning unearned run was all Chatsworth needed to defeat El Camino in a Quarter Final Playoff match up. Despite excellent pitching from Sophmore Matt Michiel and Daniel Dungan, the offense could only manafacture two hits.

The Junior Varsity finished the 2008 season with a 21-7 won-loss record, a West Valley League Championship, and a quarter-final playoff appearence.

The Junior Varsity will play league rival Chatsworth this Friday 3pm at El Camino. This will be the fourth time the teams have met this season. El Camino took the season series 2-1 as well as the 2008 Junior Varsity West Valley Championship.

Hons and Kaneshiro lead JV in season finale

Led by sophmore Centerfielder Paul Hons and Junior Designated Hitter Ian Kaneshiro, The JV breezed to a 7-2 victory of Cleveland High School. Hons went 4-5 with a double, while Kaneshiro added two hits as the team picked up its 13th league victory. The team finished with a 13-2 record, (20-6) overall.

The JV await Saturdays seeding meeting to find out their first round opponent which will be played next Tuesday.

JV, WEST VALLEY LEAGUE CHAMPS

Trailing Birmingham 2-0, The JV scored twice in the sixth and one in the seventh to defeat Birmingham 3-2. A key sixth inning base hit by Sophmore First Basemen Daniel Dungan evened the score at 2. The hit drove home Center Fielder Paul Hons who had reached on a double. In the seventh, it was Hons who worked a bases loaded walk to win it for the Conquistadors(19-6, 12-2). The win coupled with a Chatsworth loss crowned the JV team league champs of 2008.

Keppel's 3-run bomb leads JV to 5-0 victory

With no score in the bottom of the fifth, The JV scored 5 runs against visiting Taft. Sophmore Daniel Dungan picked up the win by pitching 5 innings, striking out 7, and allowing only 3 hits. With ECR leading 2-0, Sophmore Kyle Keppel blasted a 3 run home run to deep left field to seal the victory. It was Keppel's third home run of the season. The JV improve their record to 18-6, and 11-2 overall.

With 3 games left, JV battle for playoff spot

Despite 4 hits from Sophmore Matt Michiel and a fine pitching performance from Junior Morgan Davis, The JV (17-6, 10-2) were unable to hold off a late inning rally by league rival Chatsworth.

With 3 games remaining, The league championship and a playoff invitation lay at stake.

JV Wins 10th straight league game

3 hits, 3 runs, and a save from Freshman Jose Cardona led the JV to a 9-4 victory over Granada Hills. The win improved the team record to 10-1 and 17-5 overall. Justin Scovel also had 3 hits while Kyle Keppel added 3 rbis. Daneil Dungan who had not pitched in more than a month, chipped in with 3 innings of middle relief.
